Guitar Hero: World Tour Mobile rocks out on Android

We heard the mellow tones of the Guitar Hero franchise strumming its way onto the Google’s Android platform a week or two back, but Hands-On Mobile was naturally waiting for the Market to allow paid apps before rocking out.

Although the Android app store has only launched in the US so far, that was all the game really needed to let the axe man free, and Guitar Hero: World Tour Mobile has just been released.

“We know Android device users are hungry for new games and applications and Guitar Hero: World Tour Mobile is a perfect download to please any rock star in training," said David McCaman of Hands-On Mobile.

"We have worked hard to make sure that Guitar Hero: World Tour Mobile for Android is true to the franchise with some of the coolest features yet and we know fans of the game everywhere will be thrilled with this latest version."

In addition to the gameplay mechanics we saw in the mobile version, the Android outing offers enhanced graphics and accelerometer controls for ‘star power’.

All of the songs are in MP3 format, and you’ll be very glad to hear they’re automatically saved to the G1’s SD card to save room on your device.

There are 15 tracks to kick things off, with bonus songs added each month, including Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Up Around the Bend, Motorhead’s Overkill and Lenny Kravitz’s Are You Gonna Go My Way (for all the deaf players out there).

There’s also real-time online multiplayer that works across different carriers - not something that’s currently a problem here in the UK, but it should be reassuring for players in the US. It’ll also mean that the multiplayer function will continue to operate as new Android powered handsets are released.

Keep an eye out for our Guitar Hero: World Tour Mobile review, and if you’ve got the gear, go get rockin’.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
