Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile breaks 500,000 figure

Music game achieves record sales as it comes to Android

Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile breaks 500,000 figure

Well, perhaps that’s rather a cheap pun in the strapline, but this is a substantial foundation for one of the most important Android paid app launches to build on.

The mobile version of the music/rhythm game phenomenon, Guitar Hero: World Tour Mobile has now clocked up a whopping 500,000 downloads - just as the game goes live on the new paid section of the Android Market.

Currently paid Android applications and games are only available in the US, but developer Hands-On Mobile has been waiting for quite a while to bring the touchscreen operated hit to Google’s platform.

“We know Android device users are hungry for new games and applications and Guitar Hero: World Tour Mobile is a perfect download to please any rock star in training," said David McCaman of Hands-On Mobile.

"We have worked hard to make sure that Guitar Hero: World Tour Mobile for Android is true to the franchise with some of the coolest features yet and we know fans of the game everywhere will be thrilled with this latest version."

Additionally, the Android version offers enhanced graphics and accelerometer controls, while all the songs are stored automatically on the SD card in MP3 format.

With online multiplayer that works across different carriers (presumably this will become more important as other Android powered handsets are released), Guitar Hero: World Tour Mobile is a very significant launch for the Android as a gaming platform.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
