EA Mobile was given good cause to celebrate last night after gamers voted Tetris Pop as Game of the Year – a fine accolade after it already enjoyed a Gold Award from Pocket Gamer's Tetris Pop review.

The judges had this to say: "EA Mobile could have been forgiven for resting on its laurels and counting the (considerable) proceeds of selling the original Tetris for mobile. Tetris Pop is proof that EA Mobile didn't take that lazy approach. The game takes the famous Tetris formula and splits it up into a series of mini games, each with its own focussed challenge.

"It's a great way to introduce Tetris to a new audience, and reawaken the enthusiasm of existing fans. More importantly, it's superbly playable, and enormously addictive, and is truly the mobile game of the year."

The Mobile Choice Consumer Awards is the second industry sponsored event to recognise EA Mobile, after it won Publisher of the Year at the recent Mobile Entertainment Awards.

Congratulations to EA and the Tetris Pop team!

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
