You can never have too much Tetris, and although it's just come back to life on the iPhone (was it ever really dead?) EA has announced the mini-game collective for the mobile platform, Tetris Pop.

Featuring three high-energy modes of play, Tetris Pop attempts to put some white knuckle action into the classic block building game with 17 mini-variations on the immortal Russian theme.

Examples are Flood mode, which features a constant stream of blocks pouring into the screen, Detonator, which allows you to use formations to trigger bombs, and Ledge, which requires you to desperately build to avoid falling into oblivion.

Not only does it promise a wealth of dynamic backgrounds and soundtracks, but also a 'Chrono' mode that allows you to tell Tetris Pop how much time you have available to play the game, and the system will tailor a timed session automatically.

There's apparently also a secret surprise, but if EA told us what it is, the publishing giant would have to kill us.

Mucking about with such exemplary gameplay is dangerous territory, but we had an early preview of the game before E3 kicked off, and it's shaping up to be excellent.

Is it time for your mobile phone to go tetragon crazy all over again? Keep an eye on this one with the 'Track It!' button to find out.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
