Skate It gives new meaning to manual on iPhone

Manuals should be a whole lot easier when Skate It comes to iPhone and iPod touch later this spring.

The gesture-based skateboarding game, which originally saw release on Nintendo DS, is coming to iPhone and iPod touch with slicker graphics and fine-tuned touch controls.

Skating the streets, sidewalks, and rails of the fictional San Vanelona is done entirely using flicks, slides, and other gestures to pull off tricks and various manoeuvres.

A Career mode is promised in which you can customise your own skater - dudes and dudettes on offer - or you can select a pro from a limited line up. Naturally, cash earned in competition enables you to buy new clothes and accessories.

One feature only briefly mention by publisher EA Mobile is the ability to record performances. Whether these videos can be shared via YouTube or remain stuck on your handset isn't clear.

While the visuals aren't a huge improvement from the original DS version, they have been cleaned up a bit. Hopefully the gameplay has been improved too.

Skate It will be available for iPhone and iPod touch in May.
