When it comes to making games based on Pixar films, you only have to follow the trail of Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Cars to discover a large pot of cash, which is exactly what publisher THQ has done as the games company with exclusive rights to all of those films. So when it comes to 2007's summer blockbuster Ratatouille, THQ's already keen to promote how much we're all going to be loving it.

Indeed, as well as creating versions of the game based on the film for DS, PSP, GBA and mobile, THQ will also be spreading the licence across seven other gaming platforms, so no one will be immune to its charms.

As for details about how the various games will play out, the main message from THQ at this point is you'll assume the role of, 'Remy, a young rat whose love for great food puts him at odds with the needs of his family.'

That's what film directors call 'conflict'.

THQ also promises we'll be able to 'instantly recognise the storyline, characters and key locations of Ratatouille, as we engage in a series of unique mini-games, cooking challenges and head-to-head multiplayer. Ratatouille will allow players to create culinary masterpieces, evade detection from dangerous and often hungry enemies, and brave the perils of the dinner-rush in this senses-shattering journey to fulfil Remy's life-long dream of becoming a great chef.'

Executive director John Lasseter got out of his canvas chair to explain Ratatouille thus: "It is about a rat that wants to be a fine chef in a top French restaurant in Paris. It is a wonderful story about following your passions when all the world is against you. A rat to a kitchen is death; a kitchen to a rat is death."

Or as, UB40 once almost put it, "There's a rat in my game design, what am I going to do?" (Ask your dad – Ed).

Ratatouille the game of the film is due to hit all media outlets, including 11 consoles, in summer 2007. Consider yourself warned.
