Slow Penny Arcade sales on mobile means Penny Arcade 4 won't be released on iOS and Android
On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Sadness
The fourth entry in the Penny Arcade saga will not be released on iOS and Android. This is because Zeboyd Games's mobile ports "haven't done so well" to date.
The Zeboyd team is gearing up to release Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4, another retro-flavoured RPG featuring the sardonic heroes of the ever-popular web comic.
But, Robert Boyd - lead designer at the RPG studio - told his Twitter followers that this forthcoming pixel-art adventure will only be released on PC and Xbox Live Indie Games.
Gamers on iOS, Android, and Mac will miss out because of the relatively poor performance of previous mobile ports of titles in the Penny Arcade series.
"Would love to keep supporting those platforms but gamers weren't supporting us there," Boyd said. "But we're a two-man operation and want to be able to keep making new games."
Spend a pennyWe certainly enjoyed the mobile edition of On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3. We gave it a Bronze Award and called it a "clever, self-aware take on the classic JRPG".
But, we also criticised the shoddy mobile port.
"The controls are, frankly, a bit rubbish," we said. "There's an awkward mish-mash of virtual and direct touch controls... it feels unwieldy to say the least."
PC and Xbox 360 owners will be able to purchase the fourth game in the spring. It'll cost $5 on PC and 400 Microsoft Points on XBLIG.
