Zeboyd Games to bring third episode of Penny Arcade series to iOS and Android this summer

Mobile gaming fans of Penny Arcade, grandiloquence, and Victorian chicanery can rejoice: an iOS and Android version of Penny Arcade On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode Three is in development.

The iOS and Android versions have a summer 2012 release window, launching alongside the planned PC, Mac, and Xbox Live Indie Games version of the game.

It pays to diversify.

Third time lucky

The announcement of the third installment of in the Precipice of Darkness series may jog some memories back to PAX East 2010 when Penny Arcade's Mike Krahulik announced the series would be discontinued after Episode Two.

In an about-face from this decision, production for Episode Three is back on - albeit by a new development studio.

Zeboyd Games, makers of Cthulhu Saves The World, is taking over development after Hothead Games left the project to focus on Deathspank.

With a new developer comes a new vision, and Episode Three promises to depart from the first two installments in ways that will please retro RPG fans.

Among its stylistic influences for Episode Three, Zeboyd cites Final Fantasy V and Grandia as two games that contributed to its chosen direction.

From the start

Players unfamiliar with the first two installments can breathe easy: there is no previous experience required in order to play and enjoy Episode Three.

This is not to suggest that the game is freestanding, however. There will certainly be characters and callbacks from the earlier two games and a planned fourth installment is already in the earliest of preliminary stages of discussion.

If you're in Boston for PAX East this weekend, you'll be can to catch a first look at Penny Arcade On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode Three.
