With Sonic Mania only a week away there's been a little tension regarding a product leak, but today we got our first look at the opening animation and it's a thing of beauty.

Directed by Tyson Hesse, the opening sequence features the game's three protagonists: Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails, and it's absolutely dripping with charm.

Aside from its fluid animation the song choice, Hyper Potions - Friends, captures a chunk of the classic feel of the old games whilst also bringing it up to the present. Plus, you can't miss those delightful coin sounds scattered throughout the piece.

So far it's received a very positive response across social media and YouTube and for good reason. Personally, I think it's gorgeous. What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments below.
