It's Monday, it's raining, Christmas is over and you're back at your desk. A recipe for suicide, perhaps, but much as we favour the easy way out of problems here at Pocket Gamer, consider reaching for the keyboard and mouse rather than the razorblade.

After all, there is nothing a little retail therapy can't cure, so the gloom and doom of January should be a doddle.

Obviously we're aware post-Christmas funds are inevitably limited. Yet fear not, PSP owners can currently find happiness for surprisingly little outlay (we've suggested a few DS sales bargains for Nintendo fans already).

Sceptical? Why not head on over to GAME where the musical magic of Gitaroo Man Lives! promises to enchant you for just £12.98. Alternatively, hand over £14.98 and lose yourself in the hypnotic magnificence of Lumines II or the racing exuberance of OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast.

Or for the ultimate feelgood bargain factor, look no further than Exit for a ludicrously low £9.98, meaning there's now no reason to miss Taito's overlooked and underrated puzzle action title.

Should you still need cheering up after that lot then there's always Ridge Racer 2 and Mercury Meltdown available from Play.com for £17.99 each – buying both would be cheaper than a session with your local psychiatrist.

But if it's the ultimate cure you seek, something that will keep you sedated and locked in a gaming trance until Valentine's Day, Amazon has the answer in the form of the near-boundless nature of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories – yours for just under £20.

See, January isn't so bad after all, is it?
