HD video recording coming to Xperia Play as part of Android 2.3.4 update

The Android 2.3.4 firmware update rolling out to Xperia Play and other Xperia handsets this month will add a couple of extra features that have previously been unannounced, including 720p HD video recording.

A video and screenshot posted on the XDA developers forums show that the Xperia Play’s 5-megapixel camera will be able to shoot high-definition footage after the update has been installed on your phone.

Another new feature will allow you to disable the display’s auto-brightness function. Sadly, for owners of other Xperia handsets without this feature, it looks like this is only being added to the Play.

The update still hasn’t reached our UK handset, but Sony Ericsson states it should be hitting most Xperia phones over the next month.
