Despite much evidence to the contrary, we at Pocket Gamer know we're not perfect. But we do strive for such mythic status, so when we got the call that our coverage of Shrek The Third wasn't up to scratch, we got right on it.

Apparently we'd been working off erroneous information from the PSP and home console versions of the game, rather than the Nintendo Truth (Portable Version).

It turns out the DS and GBA games are completely different from those other versions, and indeed, from each other.

Of course, you're still firmly in the Shrek The Third film world. Playable characters consist of Shrek, Puss-in-Boots and Artie (that's a young King Arthur to you and me), plus, in the GBA game, Donkey. Donkey features in the DS version, too, but as a wise-cracking narrator, with his humorous commentary overlaying the storybook cut-scenes. He'll also help out by using Merlin's Magic Wand to cast useful spells.

In terms of single-player gaming, you'll have to make correct use each of these characters and their special attributes to make it through the challenges set by Prince Charming and his band of villains.

Perhaps what's most exciting though is that in the DS version you and two other friends will be able to select a character each, and play through the entire game in the wireless co-operative mode.

Activision claims Shrek will be first game to do this, and at the moment we can't think of any other game that's done it so it may well be right.

Another promised novelty is the Dual Screen Spectator Mode. This enables a player not controlling a character to help out their chums with spells and microphone input: the latter can be used to activate magical spells and abilities such Artie's trick of floating across water.

The DS and GBA versions of Shrek The Third are due out on June 22nd.
