As tenuous and generally unsubstantiated as they are,
PSP2 rumours are just
too delish to ignore, and two more have just surfaced - we'll leave it to you to decide whether or not to believe them.
The first one is probably the most substantial. It comes from
1Up, and suggests that Sony Japan is hiring testers for 'new games hardware'. This comes from a
job posting looking for evaluators for a new gaming system in the PlayStation range.
Since it's monumentally unlikely that Sony's on the hunt for PS4 testers, the most believable candidate is either for another PSP hardware update (very possible) or for the much fabled PSP2.
The second rumour comes from that most tenuous of informants, the 'highly trusted', yet completely unidentified, inside source.
VG247 is
reporting that, rather than being the PSP2, a system similar to the sliding screen concept picture we've all been drooling over for a long time will be
the PSP-4000.
This sliding screen hardware update is apparently well into its development cycle, and will be announced at this year's GDC or E3. As sweet as it would be, we'll probably not be holding our breath just yet.
Sony is adamant
there's no PSP2 even in the works, though such voracious denial tends to have the opposite effect and makes us believe it's closer than Sony would have us know, and it's simply trying to avoid the
Osborne Effect.
After all, manufacturers are constantly piling effort into R&D, and even if these rumours prove false there must be some Sony resources going into the next generation of its games system.

Slide/touch screen combo. If it is really true it makes sense and would be very practical, when not playing, to surf the web or watch movies with a biger screen and touch screen comfort. I hope all these rumors are true.
