Last Thursday, 24th August, saw somebody somewhere become the two millionth unique user ever to log onto Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service.

We know because Nintendo told us so today, but as far as we're away the two millionth user has no idea. Maybe it was you?

Incidentally, you may remember the 100 millionth iTunes purchaser got a personal phone call and a free iPod from Apple boss Steve Jobs. Could it be Nintendo has really, truly high hopes for the Wi-Fi Connection service, and is keeping its promotional powder dry?

Anyway, Nintendo also revealed the service has now logged more than 70 million individual play sessions, despite the paucity of wi-fi enabled games currently available for its ever more popular dual-screen handheld.

The good news is more are on the way, most notably the 3D blaster Star Fox Command, which has just been released in the US. Indeed, with Star Fox supporting up to four-way online dogfights, perhaps the Wi-Fi Connection's 2,012,331st user is already nothing but a floating ball of deep space debris?

There's still no firm release date for the game in the UK and Europe, though we do expect to see it by Christmas.
