Blokus Portable: Streambot Championship coming to PSP

Yesterday we brought you the news that publisher Majesco was releasing a PSP version of the famous board-game Blokus in 2008.

The game, which will go by the full, tongue-twisting title of Blokus Portable: Streambot Championship, combines gameplay from both the original four-player Blokus and the two-player Blokus Travel/Duo with anime characters from the Steambot Chronicles series.

The original Blokus board-game has apparently won 26 awards and ranks highly in the latest list of best board-game, so you don't have to take our word for it that it's good. You can take some other strangers' instead.

Blokus rules are quite simple. Each player places their coloured pieces - there are 21 different shapes - on a board in turn, ensuring that pieces of the same colour touch at one or more corners but not along the sides. The person who conquers the most territory is the winner. On PSP the game will utilise the same strategic gameplay but also offer a 16-player ad hoc wireless mode and multiplayer that allows up to three to play simultaneously with one UMD via Game Sharing mode.

Adding an extra dimension and incentive are the inclusion of the Steambot Chronicles characters. They're all fully customisable and there are 18 additional ones to unlock as you play. You also earn 'dollarinos' for winning which can be traded in for new clothing and other items.

Blokus Portable will be released during summer 2008 according to Majesco. Less brain-taxingly for now, you can just sit back and enjoy the screenshots of it in action.
