According to website The Verge, a source "close to" Korean manufacturer Samsung has confirmed that the company's forthcoming Next Galaxy event in London on May 3rd will showcase the Galaxy S II's successor.

Unfortunately, it's still unknown whether the Android-powered flagship device will be called the Galaxy S III or something else entirely.

The same source has purportedly also confirmed rumours that the device (well, the global version, at least) will pack a quad-core processor. Likely, a 2nm Cortex-A9 based Exynos chip, in fact. Regional versions of the device will have this chip substituted to meet requirements.

Finally, The Verge has been told to expect "superlative benchmark performance", which isn't surprising given the Galaxy S II's processor was a benchmark leader.
