If you were paying attention to the Android gaming tablet scene last year, you might remember the announcement of the Wikipad.

Due to hit stores last October, the 10.1" Wikipad - which featured dual analogue sticks, shoulder buttons, and other console controller perks - was delayed at the eleventh hour, due to the need for a "minor refinement".

Now, like a chunky-looking Phoenix rising from the flames, the Wikipad is set to step onto the world stage once again - this time, in 7-inch form.

This new, smaller Wikipad is the result of a rethink at Wikipad HQ, one which, according to president of sales Fraser Townley, "just seemed right".

Same guts, new skin

Despite the smaller 7-inch form factor, this new Wikipad variant contains the same Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage as the 10.1-inch model.

However, this Nexus 7-sized tablet will retail for $249 - half the price of the 10.1-inch model.

"The smaller frame delivers an aggressive price while keeping the same amazing specs," explains Townley in a press release.

With the Archos GamePad (another Android gaming tablet) getting a lukewarm reception, it'll be interesting to see how this new Wikipad fares with gamers when it launches in spring.
