White Whale Games's surreal hack 'n' slash auto-runner God of Blades has escaped the confines of the App Store and is now available on Google Play.

God of Blades is a game which wears its fantasy heart on its sleeve. The outlandish visuals are inspired by pulp adventure novels, the 1981 fantasy-animation movie Heavy Metal, and the concept art from '70s album sleeves.

Crank up the volume, and you'll be treated to a series of tunes that wouldn't sound out of place on a Marillion LP.

As for God of Blades's gameplay, well, White Whale Games has combined the now-standard auto-running mechanic with a weapons-based combat system.

During your journey through God of Blades's 11 environments, you frequently find yourself face-to-face with fantastical creatures, which come charging at you from the right of the screen.

To keep on running, you must slash these nasties to bits. Alternatively, you can use some of your character's mystical powers to engulf your enemies in flame, or bring a storm down upon their unsuspecting heads.

You can download the Pocket Gamer Bronze Award-winning God of Blades from Google Play for 65p / 99c [buy] right now.
