Blaze Union, Story to Reach the Future, the remastered third game in the cult classic JRPG tactics series, will launch in Japan this month

After being announced a few months back, developer Sting has revealed the release date for their remastered version of the cult classic and infamously complex JRPG Blaze Union: Story to Reach the Future. This tactical role-playing adventure sees you embark on a quest to reunite a country torn asunder by war as you build up your own motley crew of colourful characters and learn more about the world, your companions, and your own main character.

The Union series, which consists of Gloria Union and Yggdra Union: We Will Never Fight Alone, is known amongst JRPG diehards for being some of the most obtuse games out there when it comes to combat. Story-wise, you’re looking at a relatively typical JRPG romp with a high fantasy world torn apart by conflict, which falls on our hero to fix.

On the opposite end of typical, we’ve got the combat these games are known for. I’m not equipped to discuss every bit of these systems, as they’re simply just too complex, but I can safely say that they are worth the effort. If you can uncover the nature of Blaze Union’s systems, which are borrowed heavily from its two sibling titles, you will find one of the deepest tactics games out there.

If you would like a comparison, the closest I can think of is likely the Disgaea series, which is also no stranger to being filled to the brim with mechanics to keep in mind. Still, despite this, Blaze Union and its siblings are cult classics for a reason. They all require some hefty time investment, and likely some internet searching for what certain things do and the like, but if you can manage it, I heavily recommend the series as a whole.

So, if you’re a fan of hard-to-learn and even-harder-to-master games, cult classic JRPGs, or tactics games as a whole, you’ll be able to check out Blaze Union: Story to Reach the Future once it finally launches in Japan on April 27th.
