Blaze Union: Story to Reach the Future, the classic PSP tactics JRPG, is set to receive a remaster that's due out in Japan in 2023

Developer Sting, who have had their remaster skills tested with the likes of the mobile ports of Gloria Union and Yggdra Union: We’ll Never Fight Alone, have now set their sights on yet another remastered title from the old PSP era of gaming. This time, Sting is looking to port a remastered version of the tactics RPG Blaze Union: Story to Reach The Future.

Released an entire 12 years ago, Blaze Union was a relatively successful but still semi-cult classic that dropped on the Playstation Portable. A prequel to the previously mentioned Yggdra Union, the story elaborates on some of the elements introduced there and expands upon the massively in-depth worldbuilding that was introduced with that release.

Taking on the role of Garlot, you eventually come to put together a mercenary band and utilise the friends you make along your adventure within combat encounters. You build up a reputation within the nation as you progress through the game, restore public order in a wartorn country, and work alongside these companions as you all build up relationships and get closer to one another.

Combat-wise, an easy comparison is something like Disgaea, but frankly, it’s almost pointless to try to describe the deeper mechanics of this combat system within a singular article. There’s an absurd amount of depth here, where you’re forced to utilise every single one of your units in a manner that makes them all work together in unison. Beyond this simple surface explanation, there are far deeper mechanics that involve a lot of positioning, gender formations, and super-complex magic systems.

So, if you’re a fan of tactics RPGs or you just love some extremely obscure and complex JRPGs, you should absolutely keep your eye on Blaze Union. If you’d like to learn more, check out the trailer above and stay tuned for more information!
