We've always thought Beowulf was just an epic poem that English teachers occasionally threaten you with during your GCSE course, before hitting you with some Chaucer.

That's mainly because it is.

But Beowulf is also a big-budget CGI movie due for release later this year. And according to an interview over at GameDaily, Gameloft has secured the rights to make the official mobile game.

Apparently, the game will "capture the essence of the film and break new ground with fans and mobile gamers alike". Which, with our cynical hats firmly on, leads us to deduce that it'll be a mixture of platform action, boss battles and perhaps the odd racing/flying segment.

Gameloft has also said that the game follows the storyline of the film, as you'd expect, and is promising a mobile title that will live up to the whizzy visual quality of the movie.

The Beowulf mobile game is due out in November, to tie in with the film's release.
