E3 2012: Sony conference liveblog
|

E3 is once again upon us, which means games companies and manufacturers will be lining up to show off their new wares to gamers across the world.

After relatively poor sales in the first few months on sale, we’re expecting a lot of PS Vita reveals and news from Sony’s E3 press conference this year.

Check back at 2am BST / 6pm PST for a lot of liveblogging goodness, plus cynical comments about slightly naff-looking PS Move titles.

19:25 - Oh. That's it. Well, not as much Vita news as we thought, but still - Assassin's Creed Liberation looked good, and All Star Battle Royale's cross-platform multiplayer is very welcome.

Many thanks for joining me tonight! We'll see you all tomorrow on the show floor (virtually, I mean).

19:23 - Looks like ammunition is going to be a scarce resource, going by the complicated inventory and ability to kill people by smacking their heads on the scenery.

Looks good.

19:20 - Albeit much less shooty-shooty and a lot more walky-walky.

Oh, no - wait. Here comes the shooting bit.

19:19 - Naughty Dog's next PS3 game - The Last of Us - is up next. It looks gorgeous and a little more Uncharted-like than those teaser trailers suggested.

19:14 - God of War is up now. PS3 version, alas. I'm busily listening to screams and music while writing up a seperate story based on that previous update, if you're wondering why I'm not describing the action.

To be honest, you can probably imagine how it looks - Kratos, with his chains, beating things up.

19:07 - Time for some PlayStation Suite news. HTC will be the first non-Sony manufacturer to produce PlayStation Certified phones.

Will rename PlayStation Suite. Now known as PlayStation Mobile.

19:04 - I don't get the E3 crowd. Some people were actually whooping at that last game. I mean, come on.

19:00 - It's still going on. They're gesturing and casting 'spells' now. Ho hum.

18:58 - Adults are sitting on rugs in front of TVs, pretending to put out virtual fires by waving their hands furiously over a book.

What?

18:56 - Looks like the PS Move controller (the one that's used like a wand) will be used as a wand in an upcoming Harry Potter tie-in book thing - Book of Spells.

18:55 - While they're bigging up this PS Eye children's book on stage, I'm going to moan about the wi-fi connec-

18:52 - Hello. What's this? A PS Move montage! Or, more specifically, a montage showing the PS Eye doing AR stuff like plants growing out of a children's book.

18:49 - Hah! I spoke too soon - here comes the PS Move games!

18:49 - Interesting how there's been almost no mention of Move so far, apart from a brief glimpse of the controllers in the first montage.

18:47 - Watching a bit of Far Cry III co-op, complete with the players on stage shouting stuff like "He's over there! Under the bridge! Over there!".

18:44 - Assassin's Creed III will launch along with a new PS3 bundle. Oh - it's Far Cry III up again, next. It's basically a second Ubi press conference at the moment

18:43 - He's on a ship, doing very un-Assassin's Creed things, like - well, steering a ship.

18:40 - We're now being shown Assassin's Creed III on the PS3. This is the third time I've seen this game today.

18:37 - It's called Assassin's Creed Liberation. Out in October

18:36 - Assassin's Creed confirmed for Vita! The rumours were true - it's set in New Orleans and features a female assassin, rather than Desmond's ancestors.

18:32 - More than 60 new Vita titles for 2012 (that includes digital games).

PSOne classics coming to Vita in the Summer! Finally!

18:31 - Journey is the most downloaded PSN game. Very good choice, PSN-users.

18:30 - 80% of all PS3s and Vitas are online, apparently. Helps that PSN is free, eh, Microsoft. Eh? Eh?

18:28 - Game will be out 'later this Holiday season', and also features cross save capabilities, too.

18:22 - Sorry about that. Connection went down. PlayStation All Stars has (finally) been officially confirmed for Vita with cross platform gaming.

Multiplayer match taking place on stage between two Vitas and two players on the PS3, with Kratos beating up Sly Cooper and Fat Princess. Bizarre.

(It's basically Super Smash Brothers Sony, as expected).

18:17 - Now watching a cutscene of the game in action - Elliot being interviewed by a friendly cop. Faces look very realistic.

In bursts some less-than-friendly SWAT team cops to get the supernatural-powered (virtual) Elliot. And now it's cut to montage. Even Rocky had a montage.

Always fade out in a montage...

18:13 - The main actress for the lead character will be Elliot Page. Awesome.

18:10 - Looks like David Cage's new title is first up, and here comes the man himself. Wonder how this new title will top Heavy Rain?

It's called Beyond, and it's coming to PS3 only. "Death is the biggest mystery of mankind...", David begins. My eyes cloud over.

18:09 - "We want to begin by paying tribute to the gamers". Well done everyone! "The PlayStation world is growing to meet every gaming need you have"

18:06 - Jack Tretton is up on stage. 'If that video didn't get your heart pumping, you've come to the wrong place'. Let's not get carried away, Jack

18:04 - It's funky montage time, showing off various clips of what looks like PS3 titles, including Sorcercy, Assassin's Creed III and Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing 2

18:03 - We are go!

17:55 - So what are we expecting? Well, Littlebigplanet will likely be high up on the agenda, as will be God of War if rumours are correct.

Other titles that could well make an appearence include a new Assassin's Creed, Killzone, and possibly Call of Duty, too.

Basically - there should be a lot to get excited about.

17:50 - Hello! Yes, that's the current local time here in LA. If you've 'tuned in' from the UK, we salute your dedication/ability to stay up very late on a weekday.

We're about ten minutes away from starting, so grab yourself a cushion/coffee and get ready for what hopefully will prove to be a very Vita-heavy press conference.
