When Sony and Sky's PSP video-on-demand Go!View service launched, we had a couple of happy weeks dipping into old shows that we'd somehow managed to otherwise miss - will JD and Elliot from Scrubs never learn? - but more recently our usage has dropped off. Maybe it's time to cancel our subscription and spend that £10 a month elsewhere?

Well, maybe not. Just in time, Sony's announced the service will be covering Barclays Premier League football - which is good news as the sports content previously available was particularly poor.

However it's not entirely clear in what form and when the content will be provided. Sony says "PSP owners will be able to transfer 45 minutes of extended highlights from Sky Sports matches to watch on the go," which suggests what you'll actually get access to is various edited highlights packages.

In which case, how quickly these are made available could be crucial to how popular the service is. Still Sky has access to 92 live Barclays Premier League games and a further 242 'near live' matches this season so there will certainly be plenty of content.

In addition, Sony says highlights from the season's best games will also be available from October.

And perusing the Go!View catalogue outside of the Sports section, we also note the film catalogue has been extended with the addition of the likes of The Diving Bell & The Butterfly, Charlie Wilson's War and In the Valley of Elah (each £3.50). The much under-rated Smoking Room series 1 (starring Peep Show's mournful Robert Webb) has also been added to the Comedy section.

Maybe Sony's saved that £10 for another month after all.
