Following sales figure data for Christmas crowning DS the fastest selling, biggest selling and all-round smug top of the class console for 2007, Nintendo has had even more good news.

(Well, it could hardly be bad news unless all the consoles sold suddenly turned into aliens with pointy knives for arms, killed their owners then tried to detonate ten nuclear bombs hidden in Cardiff city centre. Yes, we've been watching too much Torchwood).

Nintendo today announced both its European sales figures for March to December 2007, and that the company's profits doubled thanks to bumper sales of both DS and Wii.

24.5 million DS consoles were sold during those nine months, which brings the grand total shifted globally to 64.8 million.

DS software too has been selling massively across Europe. Dr Kawashima's Brain Training has now sold five million units, More Brain Training: 2.8 million and Mario Kart DS: two million.

The out-and-out winner of them all though is Nintendogs, which has sold a huge eight million copies in Europe alone. And you wonder why game shop shelves always seem to house nothing but animal games from assorted publishers.

Nintendo expects to sell a further five million DS units across Europe before the end of March this year, too. Can anything stop them? Short of those aliens, probably not.
