Vivendi now holds a majority of Gameloft’s share capital, Ubisoft could be next

After months of verbal debate and all out war to gather the most shares, it seems that Vivendi has finally succeeded and "bought"Gameloft as it now holds 61.71% of Gameloft’s share capital and at least 55.61% of its voting rights..

Formerly a Ubisoft company, Gameloft brought us has been in the mobile game since 1999 and houses more than 7000 employees. Lately though, it's been downhill as Gameloft focused on free-to-play titles that failed to appear in the top grossing list so why would someone be interested in it?

While Vivendi could try to get Gameloft's back to its former glory, it's also seen as a way to get closer to Ubisoft. Indeed, Vivendi is seemingly trying to acquire a big stake in the french developer which has remained control by the Guillemot family since its creation.

For now though, Vivendi is saying that it will offer its full backing and that Gameloft "can be more ambitious in its growth plans". We'll see what that means for the future of Gameloft.
