Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, Sega West President Mike Hayes was interested to see 18 rated crime game Saints Row among the franchises planned for release on 3DS.

“If the audience for 3DS is much broader it could give us much more scope in that market.” Sega’s DS output is mostly restricted to child friendly, younger games like Sonic and Super Monkey Ball.

“We could bring, let's say, a House of the Dead or an Aliens title,” Hayes says.

The developer has experimented with more mature games on Nintendo’s platforms earlier, by releasing games such as 18 rated MadWorld and House of the Dead: Overkill on Wii. Reports indicate the games didn’t perform as well as Sega hoped.

Perhaps the 3DS will lift Nintendo’s childish stigma, and court more mature and adult games.
