Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars coming to DS in March 09
And it's the Director's Cut, no less
We knew it was almost certainly on its way, but Ubisoft has today confirmed seminal point-and-click adventure, Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars is coming to DS next year.
There's more, however. As rumoured, this isn't simply a straight port of the 1996 original (a Game Boy Advance version of the first Broken Sword also made an appearance in 2002, fact fans), but rather a Director's Cut version that "builds on the original, boasting a new and explosive narrative interwoven with the first story".
That means new puzzles, too, and these take advantage of the format's distinct control method. “These new platforms [the game is also coming to Wii] and their innovative controls enabled us to translate and enrich the point-and-click gaming experience in a way that no other console allowed before,” said Charles Cecil, founder of Revolution Software, designer of the Broken Sword series and one of the nicest men you're ever likely to meet in the video game industry. So we'll respectfully let him have the stage…
“Through Dave’s [Dave Gibbons, of Watchmen fame, is on facial expression drawing duty] animated faces, the game’s characters are portrayed as empathetic and emotional – driving the narrative in a way that has never been done before in an adventure game. The Director’s Cut has allowed me to deliver my true vision for the series.
"The Director’s Cut features elements that enhance the original puzzles and storyline, which helps explain what happened prior to the start of the original game, and how it ties to later games in the series."
Roll on March 2009.
