We've all been here before. You're a half spider, half velociraptor hero, armed with laser guns, saving your eggs from an army of robotic seafood-based space invaders on a mission from their evil CEO to satisfy his hunger for an exotic hard-boiled ovoid breakfast.

Yeah, Velocispider, the latest iOS high score-focused game from US-based developer Retro Dreamer, takes the basic Invaders theme and gives it a colourful, pixelly refresh, adding tilt movement into the mix for pick-up-and-playability.

A simple plan

You get three lives per session, and are rewarded for each wave you fight off with points for destroyed invaders and how many of your eggs you saved. As well as general invader activity, individual robots will swoop in to try to beam up your eggs.

You simply tilt your iOS device to move your velocispider along the bottom of the screen, with firing happening automatically. Invaders will drop power ups for you to collect - faster fire, double fire, three-way fire etc - as you destroy them. The game's high scores are supported by Game Center.

Velocispider is out for iPad and iPhone in a 99c, €0.79 or 59p universal build on June 1.

You can see how it plays in the following video.
