Vanquish: Oath of Brothers rides out onto iPhone

Korean developer has forged a name for itself in the iPhone and mobile RPG arena, and we heard in January that it was turning its hand to the high-action hack 'n' slash in Vanquish: Oath of Brothers.

The game, which just hit the App Store, adheres loosely to the events of Chinese epic The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, in which three soldiers swear an oath to protect the Han Dynasty.

The action begins straight away as you take up the guan dao (a Chinese weapon consisting of a staff with a wide, curved blade on the end) of heroic Guan Yu as he rides out to battle on horseback.

The story follows the heroes as they work their way across China, hacking and slashing the enemies of Han in a beautiful "ink and wash" graphics style.

Though 2D in essence, the controls allow you to rotate the immediate vicinity so Guan Yu and his brothers can be positioned to cause the greatest amount of havoc as they cut through infantry, cavalry, and all manner of enemy forces.

Gamevil released Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers yesterday at £1.79/$2.99, so hit the 'App Store' button to go check it out if you fancy a fighting game with extra style.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
