“The Blocks Cometh by Halfbot has arrived”, reads the App Store description. You'd be forgiven for thinking that this popular Flash game had arrived on iPhone some time ago, but the previous version was a fake, now vanquished.

“Does this game look familiar?” the description continues. “Well, rest assured this is the OFFICIAL Blocks Cometh by its original creator, Halfbot.”

The Blocks Cometh involves jumping on blocks that descend, Tetris-like, into a well. It's all rendered in pixel-art with a retro bit-tune soundtrack. The iPhone version builds on the original Flash version with crossover characters from fellow iPhone retro effort League of Evil and the website Destructoid.

The game comes with virtual D-pad or tilt controls, four characters to unlock, OpenFeint and Game Center achievements, Retina display support, and a soundtrack composed by HyperDuck Soundworks.

Yes, THE HyperDuck Soundworks.

More modes, characters, and achievements are promised in forthcoming updates.

The Blocks Cometh is out now in New Zealand for NZ$1.29, meaning it'll come out in the US and the UK overnight costing 99c / 59p respectively.
