iPhone Super Quickhook submitted to App Store, out soon
Hook Champ goes 16-bit
Rocketcat Games, developer of iPhone favourite Hook Champ, has submitted the game's spiritual sucessor, Super Quickhook, to Apple for approval and release on the App Store.
As long as it checks out, and Apple doesn't find seal clubbing, boobies or political figures being ribbed, it will be available to download on iPhone and iPod touch in the coming weeks.
As we've previously mentioned, Super Quickhook features both Hook Champ's exploratory cave levells and the "pick up and play" Avalanche mode. Developer Kepa Auwae describes the latter as "random and endless, with 60 different sections and lots of alternate, secret paths."
How do you score high? "You have to use your grappling hook to survive in the face of an also endless, crushing avalanche."
As for the exploration based stages, with unique art and treasures to be found, there will be 17 levels on release, with more planned in future updates. Plus, "if you master them, you can complete them in breakneck speeds to unlock advanced levels and fancy items," says Auwae.
They've all got ghost races and leaderboards, as well as an upgrade system and extra hats.
That's right, hats. I think Rocketcat has a slight obsession with hats. In fact, buy the game on day and you won't just get a lovely bargain price, but two exclusive in-game head garments.
The day it's released, the game will be available for £1.19 / $1.99 / €1.59. After that, it'll return to its normal price of £1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39.
As is the precedent with newly submitted apps, Super Quickhook should hit iPhone and iPod touch within the next couple of weeks. See new screenshots in the gallery above, and a video below.
