EA boldly goes onto the App Store with Star Trek shmup

The all new Star Trek movie is due for release this week, in which we discover (or re-discover, if we want to be pedantic – and being Trekkers, we do) the origins of the crew who will one day go on a five year mission under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.

And what's better to get in the mood than EA's tie-in iPhone and iPod touch game in which you can jump into the captain’s chair and pilot the Enterprise through the deep space, blowing up aliens and teaching their women about this thing called love (expect for that last bit. As far as we know there aren’t any hot green babes in the game).

Star Trek is a top-down shooter, which offers you a choice of tilt, touch or virtual D-pad for controls, and promises to let you fight alongside – and against – familiar ships such as the K’Tinga, Voldore and the Keldon.

Original series characters such as Sulu, Scotty and Uhura also make an appearance, as does the original theme, although you can plug in your own music from iTunes if you so desire.

Beam on over to the App Store to explore the strange new worlds of the official Star Trek game (and to blow them up), but before you go, take a deep breath. Ready?

KAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHNNNNNN!

Nice.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
