Soul Trapper developer talks new iPhone games

Bloodvine, LA Knight and a 'variety science fiction series'

Soul Trapper developer talks new iPhone games

Soul Trapper was one of the most innovative iPhone games of 2008, and its developer Realtime Audio Adventures is planning to follow it with three new series in 2009.

"We have two more full-fledged audio adventures in the works that should be ready early April: Bloodvine, a vampire action/romance; and LA Knight, a noir-detective game set in Los Angeles in the late 30s. These will be the 2+ / 3+ hour full experience like Soul Trapper," boss David Warhol tells PocketGamer.biz.

"Besides those we are sketching out a comedy / crime solver series, and a variety science fiction series – similar to a Twilight Zone in that the characters and plots don't follow a single thread, but still have an overall vibe in common."

He reveals that he's spent the last 15 years wanting to make these kinds of audio-only games, but that it was only two years ago that he realised that iPods (and subsequently iPhones) would be the perfect platform.

"Out of all of the devices currently available, the iPhone is the perfect platform for audio adventures. Its roots are firmly in an MP3 player technology, as it started as an audio device," he says.

"Other portable game systems concentrate on the visuals, but we actually suggest that you only look at the screen when it's time to make a move or solve a puzzle."

However, he says Realtime is quite happy to port its iPhone games to other smartphones, but only when the likely sales will justify the porting costs. "As soon as the number is a positive one, we'll support a new platform," he says.
