Exclusive: Namco reeling in Solitaire: Deck of Cods

Announced during our iPhone gaming presentation at Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, Solitaire: Deck of Cods casts a fishy breed of card play on the iPhone later this month.

Namco, in partnership with new development house Red i Software, is putting a twist on the ages-old game of solitaire by blending it with fishing.

The game has you catching fish by moving swaths of cards. Moving big bunches of cards nets you larger fish and different varieties too.

A trophy room chronicles your keep, each type of fish marked down, as well as the size in inches. Species range from simple carp to smallmouth bass, catfish, and rainbow trout.

Wildcards boost your chances of nabbing rare varieties including Lure, Feeding Frenzy, and Fish Finder cards.

You're free to brag about your day's catch via Facebook Connect. Additionally, a peer-to-peer multiplayer mode allows you to square off with a pal via Bluetooth for the biggest catch.

A total of 50 levels are planned for the game, 18 of which you can try out in a free PC version set for release alongside the App Store version.

Solitaire: Deck of Cods is expected to arrive on the App Store before the end of September at 59p/99c.
