Publisher Aksys Games has announced that it's working with developer Fishing Cactus to bring puzzle-platformer Shifting World to the Nintendo 3DS in 2012.

Inspired by Armor Games's award-winning Flash-based puzzler Shift, this forthcoming minimalist 3DS title tasks you with 'shifting' the game's world from white to black and vice versa to overcome obstacles and reach the end of 60 different stages.

You'll also have to switch between 3D and 2D whenever the need arises.

New dimensions

Shifting World will feature three different game modes - Adventure Mode, Bonus Mode, and Time Attack Mode - a level editor so you can create your own masterpieces, and a special level generator that turns DataMatrix barcodes into new stages.

The Shift series is popular among the Pocket Gamer staff, with the mobile versions of Shift and Shift 2 both nabbing Silver Awards at review. You can colour us most interested.

Shifting Worlds will be available on 3DS sometime in 2012.
