Thumbstar gives Bejeweled Twist a twist with Shifters for iPhone
Which way are you spinning?
Just as Japanese games companies such as Nintendo, Taito, Capcom, Sega and Namco lay claim to many of the first innovations of the industry, so when it comes to blocky match-three puzzlers. It's almost impossible to work around giants of block such as Tetris and Bejeweled.
It's no real issue then that Shifters, the new iPhone game from UK publisher Thumbstar is fairly similar to Bejeweled Twist.
Throw a shapeBasically, you have to deal with a full grid of coloured blocks and move a 2 x 2 selection block around and then rotate those blocks to make match of three blocks either horizontally or vertically.
Unlike Bejeweled Twist however, you can choose which way you rotate the selection block, thanks to a button on which you can toggle between anti and clockwise rotations found under the play grid.
It originally came out for mobile and Keith quite liked it saying, "Like many puzzlers fixated with coloured blocks, Shifters rewards those with a talent for matching lines of coloured blocks together".
In terms of detail, there are four game modes, split between action and puzzle types - Core mode, Color Hunter, Combo Master and Logic mode. In total, there are 50 levels and eight types of shifter types.
Shifters is out now, priced 99c, €0.79 or 59p.
