For most of us, the phrase "guardian angel" evokes a sense of comfort, but for the fugitive demons in Shadow Escaper those two words are a source of unbridled terror.

That's because the guardian angels in Shadow Escaper are heavily armoured angelic guards who are intent on capturing two fleeing demons and bringing them to justice.

But Al (the Wolven Wonder) and Lili (the Dainty Demon) aren't just a pair of running fools - their carefully calculated careening is a bid to keep them away from angels until night falls.

Once that happens, the tables and gameplay turn, as you transform into an actual demon and fight back with the energy that you've collected.

A hell of a way to run

It'd be charitable to say that Shadow Escaper is inspired by Temple Run as there's a hefty amount of overlap between the two games, but Shadow Escaper is more than a simple clone.

Joystiq notes that Shadow Escaper is developed by CyberConnect2 - the studio responsible for Asura's Wrath and the Naruto Ultimate series of fighting games.

This translates Shadow Escaper having impressive 3D graphics, catchy music, and adorable sound effects that will almost make you want to run into obstacles.

The free-to-play Shadow Escaper also allows you to play against friends through Twitter, Facebook, and GREE integration but also requires an active network connection so your mileage with it might vary if you plan on playing during your next flight.

The iOS version is out now, with an Android release expected soon.
