RuneScape Kingdoms, a board game and roleplaying game based on the MMO, will become available to pre-order later this month

Steamforged Games and Jagex have announced that pre-orders will open in late September for the roleplaying game, and board game based on the ever-popular MMORPG RuneScape. They will fly under the RuneScape Kingdoms banner with the board game bearing the subtitle Shadow of Elvarg and the roleplaying game, the slightly less imaginative yet inarguably accurate The Roleplaying Game.

Using a three d6 dice mechanic, The Roleplaying Game aims to be accessible while capturing the essence of the source material. The core book will, naturally, include all the rules alongside a tonne of lore to allow game masters to create lore-faithful campaigns. That means you can expect to find details on character creation, prayer systems, crafting, and all the beasties and monsters players must defeat.

Elsewhere, the board game sees one to five players exploring Gielinor in cooperative campaigns that draw inspiration from memorable quests from RuneScape. It aims to offer the vibe of the MMORPG with quests, side quests, skills, and crafting. There are also characters to meet along the way and imposing bosses to topple. Oh, and cakes to bake that could change player fortunes.

Discussing The Roleplaying Game and Shadow of Elvarg, Mat Hart, Co-founder and Creative Director at Steamforged Games, said: “The RuneScape Kingdoms project has been particularly exciting for our team, as we’ve worked extremely closely with Jagex.

“It’s been a real passion project for us to bring this very special world to the tabletop in two different and equally immersive ways. We can’t wait to share the results with gaming fans all over the world, from board gamers, to roleplaying gamers, to video gamers who might never have tried a tabletop game before.”

While you wait, you can play RuneScape on the App Store or Google Play. You can download it for your preferred platform using the links below.
