Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D announced for 3DS

Capcom has revealed first details on one of the two Resident Evil / Biohazard games heading to 3DS at Nintendo’s conference earlier today, entitled Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D.

Fans who were turned off by the last two games on the home consoles are in for a bit of a shock, though, as the gameplay for this particular title solely revolves around an unlockable gameplay mode found in Resident Evil 4 and 5 that puts the player up against waves of the infected living.

Mercenaries will feature locations from both 4 and 5, with a cast list that is expected to contain everyone’s favourite ex-members of STARS and the BSAA, including the new-look Chris Redfield and his ridiculous biceps, along with as-yet unannounced new twists to the formula and online co-op play.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D doesn’t yet have a release date, but we’d be highly surprised if it launched before the 3DS does, next February.

More details on the second Resident Evil game for the 3DS, Revelations, which is expected to take a more traditional route to the gameplay, are expected to appear soon.
