Budget publisher XS Games has ported storied shooter-and-brawler hybrid The Red Star to iPhone.

The game is well known in the gaming community for being plagued with development issues. The shooter missed its original release date by a scant four years, and with the original developer going bankrupt half way through development, its surprising it ever released at all.

Since it came out, though, it's enjoyed a stint of cult classic status, and it's seen re-release on platforms like PSP and now iPhone. The mobile edition features the console game, as you fight using arcane magic and industrial technology in an alternate Russia.

If you want some extra backstory, you can also grab the original graphic novel on iPhone.

Red Star is available on iPhone and iPod touch now for £2.99 / $4.99 / €3.99. There’s a free, lite edition too, if you want to give the game a try.
