Gameloft takes a crack at egg-chasing

Rugby is a notoriously hard sport to turn into a game. On console, rugby titles have a chequered history, while on mobile we were distinctly unimpressed by RBS 6 Nations Rugby earlier this year.

Frankly, rugby seems a bit too fiddly to suit a game treatment, not least because much of the real action (such as eye-gouging and testicle-squeezing) goes on in the scrum, hidden from view. It's a tough call for any developer to simulate.

That's not stopped Gameloft though, which has just announced Real Rugby. What's more, the publisher has signed up French winger Christophe Dominici and English hospital-bed-warmer fly-half Jonny Wilkinson to promote the game.

Gameloft is promising a realistic rugger simulation, including scrums, line-outs, a kicking game and proper transformations. Sadly that doesn't mean you can pick Optimus Prime at number 8. It's a corking idea for an unlockable feature though, eh?

The real test will be whether Real Rugby can blend realism with accessible controls, however. The game is out next month, so click 'Track It!' for an alert when we review it.
