I can't understand why all you people are bashing the reviewer. His score was quite generous. I had a vita for the sole reason of having COD in the palm of my hands wherever I may be and to be honest I would rather play doodle jump on my iphone. I traded in my vita the same COD was released for it. I've never been let down so hard in my life, what a huge dissapointment it was. Everything about it was awful. Every single FPS on the ios App Store is light years ahead of BO DECLASSIFIED and a lot more enjoyable to play.
I know I'm a little late on this disscussion but I was just reading through the site and saw all these childish comments against the reviewer and couldn't resist defending his honest and truthfully review of one of the worst games I've ever had the displeasure of playing

Gamestop gave me 33$ store credit for the copy I got free in my Vita bundle :) Their prices are based upon popularity; so I guess they hadn't ready your review yet. :)

@MR Bendel

An objective review would consist only of facts.

Here's a good example against objective reviews!

It's sad that in this day and age, reviewers are constantly having to defend their opinions. IGN was just talking on beyond about this exact problem as was the UK IGN podcast. I think it was the uk podcast where one reviewer had a comment on a review that said 'leave your personal opinions to the side and review the game objectively!'. People need to know these reviews are just that – personal opinions. You don't have to agree - thats fine! But don't vilify the people writing them.

again, i just wanna know if this is as good as resistance( a game i enjoyed but it did have major issues in the multiplayer among other things).

which game is easier to recommend.
( resistance at launch price or declassified)

i dont mind the numbers it gets.
i just wanna know if it's smooth (if short) consistently unline resistance.

Hi Deviator, I'm the reviewer in question, and I'm also the handheld editor here at PG, the leading website for portable gaming. I don't usually respond to comments - work should stand for itself - but yours compelled me to do so.

Declassified's single player was completed, and I tried to play the multiplayer on launch day for over two hours, but with very limited success, which was stated in my review. It wasn't a rush job, I spent hours and hours and hours on it.

I was negative in tone because I don't think the game is very good, hence the tone. The negative tone. About the bad game. See how those things might go together?

You also note that the "bigger review sites" haven't put their reviews out. You're wrong, check Metacritic for a full list of outlets that have. All of them are PG level of big, which is to say: big. We're actually one of the more generous scores on the net right now, for what it's worth.

You admit that the online doesn't work and say that "this has always been a common problem with COD around launch time so who cares?" Well I care Deviator, I want games to get better, I want you as a consumer to have more exciting, engaging and technically impressive games. What I don't want to do is think "well it's always been rubbish, so I guess it's okay this time round if it's still rubbish".

In addition you say that it "just isn't right" that Resistance is a better game. If you can show me the maths and science that proves Burning Skies isn't as good as Declassified, please do. If you can do that for any video game ever made, I'd be interested, as liking something is based on tastes. You know, "opinion", and not "facts".

Glad you took the time to comment, but please don't make assumptions about my credibility as a critic, and please get your facts straight before you base entire, and exceptionally rude arguments, on utter poppycock.

Much love, Peter x

I'm not a COD fanboy. I loved Modern Warfare 2 but pretty much lost interest after that so any generalizations made of my comments being those of someone who can't see beyond the COD name or someone with a mindless desire to see a great game on the Vita are misguided.

Putting the Call Of Duty name to one side (along with any expectations that it brings to a game) I think that the Pocket Gamer review was guilty of jumping on the bandwagon of negativity that developed leading up to the release of this game. I found it almost hateful in it's negativity. As if the reviewer(s) had played just enough of the game to validate their preconceptions before deciding to let rip by publishing the first negative review. The slightly condescending article the Pocket Gamer editor posted today of "a day in the life of a review writer at Pocket Gamer" unfortunately does nothing to validate the overly negative review and low score given to the game. Resistance: Burning Skies was given a score by Pocket Gamer of 7/10. Call Of Duty: Black Ops - Declasified given a score by Pocket Gamer of 4/10. The scores are telling us that Resistance is much better than Declassified! This is just isn't right.

The movement and responsiveness of the controls in Call Of Duty Declassified are far improved over Resistance. There are issues with logging into online multplayer games (success rate of about 1 in 3 at the moment) but this has always been a common problem with COD around launch time so who cares? What we have here is an online multiplayer FPS on a handheld that is actually pretty good! Resistance was hopeless. Anyone with a Vita who wants to play an FPS on it should go and buy COD Declassified. Is it perfect? No. But it's hell of a lot better than the Pocket Gamer review would lead you to believe. It's worth noting that none of the bigger review sites (IGN, Gamespot, etc) have issued their reviews yet. Maybe they want to spend enough time with the game to ensure they give a balanced review...? Whatever score these sites award the game I doubt we'll see reviews toned as poorly as the Pocket Gamer one. The tone of it bugged me but what prompted me to sign-up and leave feedback on both the Declassified review and the article above is the score..... Call Of Duty: Black Ops - Declasified given a score by PocketGamer of 4/10..... Resistance: Burning Skies given a score by PocketGamer of 7/10 ...sigh... these scores are going to have people going out to buy the less enjoyable game! What on earth were they thinking? Hopeless reviewing.

To those bitching about PGs IOS score for NFS, you do realise that the only useful game reviews are those written relatively to each device don't you? I mean, I own an iPhone and a Vita and my gaming expectations naturally vary depending on which device I have in my hands. To compare two scores written for two different games on two entirely separate platforms is just plain stupid and unhelpful.

I think this is a perfectly valid review and as a Vita owner I vey much object to others wilful acceptance of mediocrity for it. Vita can and must do far better.

All the people saying that the reviewer is entitled because he had to go out and buy a copy are morons. Publishers and developers routinely send out copies for major sites to review. If a publisher has faith in said product, they will send them out early, probably a week in advance.

What Activision has done is try and avoid any early / launch day reviews for this game because they KNOW HOW SHITTY IT IS. NOBODY, I repeat, NOBODY got a copy early to review. When a company does that, they know the game is bad, it's really that simple. Activision has tried to sell as many copies as possible based solely on the COD name. I'm sure there are many idiots out there who will support it because it's COD. They will even allow Activision to charge them $10 more than the standard Vita game.

I wasn't going to buy the game as soon as Nihilistic was revealed to be the developer. Resistance sucked, and due to lack of reviews I believe that CODBOD sucks as well. This is only one of many reviews that will trash this game, so get ready to go on the defensive fanbois.

PocketGamer gave Resistance on the Vita 7/10. Trust me when I say that this game is a huge improvement over Resistance so to give it 4/10 is just nonsense. I'm surprised that the editor of PocketGamer let this review go out because it undermines the consistency of how PocketGamer scores games. Call of Duty Declassified is the best FPS that there has ever been on a handheld to date and it should be given credit for this. It's not as good as the home console versions but it should be taken for what it is, which is a fun handheld FPS. If you have a Vita and like Call of Duty then I'd recommend it because I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I've just played it and everything written above is accurate. This is a very lazy game, not thought out very well and in need of some serious patching.... the message popping up if you lose connection to the internet is just ridiculous when the game carries on playing in the background!

@Ogo_F. Why on Earth do you think, "It's quite good, considering that it had a low budget and no development time," is an acceptable defence?

They aren't selling it at a budget price.

genuine question,
is this game a worse game than resistance burning skies( which you awarded a bronze award to).
in terms of playability and longevity etc.
in other words would you rather play this than burning skies or not?

Generally speaking, not being sent a review copy is a bad sign, and since finding out who Activision had farmed this out to, I'd anticipated garbage.

For those claiming this is a "bad review" (mostly with a post count of 1 I notice) in what way exactly? The reviewer posted exactly what his complaints with the product were - if it crashed, that's pretty bad in and of itself, but the quality of the single player sounds dire, and even worse the game needed patching on release with a 400Mb(!) fix. That's crap by anybody's standards.

I'm very enthusiastic in my support for Vita - I picked up the DJ Max Technika Tune special edition while in Japan, alongside Project Diva F, the US version of Ragnarok Odyssey and I even like the Silent Hill game on the system - but so long as Western companies shovel out their IP's to third-rate studios, the Vita is going to end up in real trouble.

Thankfully it's still early days, and at least AC3, Uncharted, Wipeout and Need for Speed have shown credibility in porting big screen experiences to the handheld - hopefully this'll make studios take it seriously.

The opening sentence "We didn't get a review copy of the game in before launch, or even on launch day. We had to go out and buy our own copy - such is the entertainment giant's faith in it." is just laughable in itself. Talk about taking "free" copies for granted. Reviewers should never make mention of such things. From then on in it was hard to take this guy seriously. I've played the game for a few hours and didn't experience anything said here. Sure it's shallower than PS3 versions of CoD but what do you expect. It would be a stupid marketing move to have a really deep story here that people without a VITA would miss out on. More people have a PS3 than a VITA so it's only natural to do that. Also a handheld is meant for you to be able to plug and play without having to worry about story so you can play for as little or as long as you want. I also found that the graphics for example were pretty much spot on compared to the poor trailer we got and it was a nice surprise.
I accept the reviewer has his opinions but that rubbish about not receiving a review copy is just sour grapes and that kind of stuff shouldn't be included in a game review.

Guys i actually own a PS Vita, so don't think my review is because Im an XBOX Fanboy. lmao what a Joke, i know PC is the best. Just stating that Nihilistic hasn't made a good game and this game looks maximum like $40. This review looks a bit sketchy though because like one said, They gave Ios NFS a better score? Thats just fanboy right there, i think this game is bad but not all Vita games have to be bad you know.

No, you had to buy it just like everyone else. Deal with it. How entitled can a person be?

Did u guys actually play this game? What an awful review. I had low expectations for this game as did a lot of my buddies.. We picked it up today and we are loving it. It's Call Of Duty on the Go... What more can u ask for? I never post on comment boards but reading this terrible review I had too. I hope people looking for a honest review will not listen to this one... I realize it's you opinion but I can't help but feel that u had this opinion before u even played it. I give this game a solid 8 out of 10 , but ya that's just my opinion to :-)

I bought it and I think a 4 is kind of generous. the worst part is how it artificially extends the game by making you play the same level over and over (no save points, timed missions, etc). I even liked Resistance burning skies (probably give it a 7) but this game is just frustrating and NOT fun. It kind of reminds me of unit 13 but unit 13 is much better. I've only played the single player, but I'm about to put this one away...

I fully agree with Ogo_F, what a terrible review!!!

I own a cutting edge water cooled, triple 27' monitor (in eyefinity mode) , triple video card beast of a PC and play all the COD games on it. I know what COD looks and plays like and let me tell you for a 6 month conversion of the black ops game in the palm of your hand it bloody well rocks!

I want to play black ops 2 on my PC but the PSvita keeps calling me over. I never have played a FPS on a handheld this good and its just so fun, really feels like COD. Nice gameplay, really good frames per second. Online multiplayer is surprisingly satisfying.

I have to wonder if you are financed by Microsoft or sniff glue because you are truly doing a disservice to the people who actually need an accurate review. Sure it is not as good as its console counterparts but after reading and watching all the doom and gloom from the "professional" reviewers, I was super happy with the game once I bought it.

Once again great game and one that I will be playing until next year when the next COD for psvita comes out!

Half of those Metacrtic reviews are fake, all those profiles have only reviewed once and the only real reviewer on there rated it a 4. This game is crap definitely not worth my $50. Might as well pay 10 extra dollars and get the full experience and much much more!

I rate this review pretty good, They stated the game was good when it worked but Nihlistic has its reputation for making games be buggy and glitchy just like Resistance so yea this game is bound to fail. If you have fun, great but you shouldn't tell others to spend $50 that is a waste of hard earned cash.

This is by FAR the worst review i have read in the history of reviews. Wow, you should really retire from reviewing games. The only thing this game can be negged for is content and price. Lack of content is no surprise as they had like 6 months to make the game but what they did make is good. The gameplay is solid and controls well and most importantly, it is fun. Games are SUPPOSED to be fun and this one is. Think i am the only one whos shares this opinion? go on metacritic and read the user reviews. Why on earth someone would be comparing a handheld game to a console game is beyond me especially when the handheld version has a very limited budget and was put together in <6 months. Foolish review.
