I made a site a little while ago that tracks overall progress on the cube. For the last few weeks, we're averaging ~50,000 cubes destroyed / min. You can do the math yourself, but that's around ~2 years. Hopefully, people get interested again and the rate goes up.

@mr_bez,

I can confirm that Harry IS still alive. And well.

His latest entry in the Curiosity Cube Diary forms the opening bars of Volume II. Yep, this is really a thing.

Here it is, in fact: http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPad/Curiosity+-+what%27s+inside+the+cube/feature.asp?c=49452

Did Harry die mid-sentence while writing that last entry? If so, it's fitting that he went out doing something he loves.

what if he didn't think their would be much interest so he assumed no one would ever get to the centre of the cube, perhaps he would quietly shut-down the game citing a lack of interest. We know that his expectations were for the game to gain only a small amount of interest, as he has said that he had not expected much interest in the experiment.

Jesus... This is still going on? At this rate, I can't see this thing being ever being finished.

I don't particularly care about this game/experiment, and I'm not expecting anything actually life changing to be in it, but I *am* curious what they could embed into a digital cube that anyone could even think about calling "life changing", because I can't for the life of me imagine anything except maybe some "wise" words or something.

Maybe they are speculating on people never finishing the cube and don't even know what to, should it ever happen?

Raj, the cube root gives the length of the full cube before any layers are removed. The number of layers would be half that (i.e. 2000) as the length of each side would go down by 2 each time - you lose one from each end.

That's assuming you go all the way down to the smallest cube (2x2x2). That would also mean that there are still 46 billion cubes left - we're only just over a quarter of the way through. I hope for Harry's sake that's not true!

hi ,
I read in a few places there's 64 billion cublets

http://www.modojo.com/features/curiosity_whats_inside_the_cube_an_eventful_first_week/

if so would the cube root would give the total number of layers -4k ?
maths is not a strong point , what do you think ?
cheers

So it's 45 days, 113 layers and still basically just 'tapping at blocks"? I thought we were promised different gameplay!

It's almost as if 22Cans were more focused on getting Godus kick-started?

Somehow I doubt Molyneux is going to make much money out of this. Besides, if he was in it for the money, he wouldn't have left Lionhead. He wouldn't have left BULLFROG.

We now have a hyperlink at the top of the page that, when clicked, will whizz you to the most recent entry. It's all magic, like.

This whole thing just sounds so stupid to me. I mean, who seriously wants to click boxes and draw words and obscenities on a cube for almost a year, on some lofty BS promise from Molyneux that there IS something worthwhile at the center? I'm sorry, but I'm calling it now :

The video tells the winner how much of a colossal waste all of this was, to go do something more productive with their time. I just don't get this at all.

Are YOU going to keep clicking and updating this thing until August? I haven't even bothered to read the whole thing, I just clicked today out of curiosity (lol) to see if anything was actually happening. Nope, I was right.

I also agree with other posts here though, if you DO plan on seeing this through (I hope just for journalism's sake), you start to break this up into separate pages. This thing is just too unwieldy/long now.

Could you add the updates to the top of the page so we don't have to scroll down to the bottom each time.

Cheers

Hello from South Africa. Are they making it more difficult or was it a software bug. Layer 63 or 64 suddenly has a two-cube red border on all sides, too neat to have been left behind by hand, and also the small color difference in layers. All I'm now waiting for is two of the same colored layers. That will stop the creeps writing rude messages, because you can't see the text or drawings.
Regards
Hans

@refreshcreation

But as those layers get demolished, the quest will speed up as the cube gets smaller. You know - like onion layers.

Really? 2000 more layers. What a boring grind quest.

I hope the middle is animated gif of Peter Molyneux giggling with a pile of money. 2 frames and nothing else. Well, maybe with the text "You Won!" mis-spelled.

Harry, aren't you going to get tired of writing this before it ends? I mean, 2000 more layers to go... Good luck, dude.

Lol what could possibly be in the middle that will change your life? Maybe a message saying 'what a loser, tapping away at virtual squares for hours on end, get a grip you sad muppet...'

Tempted to download this app... But then again, it seems like enough people got this handled. I'll just stick with my football manager and hobbit kingdom for my time wasters. Love this blog though. I'm living vicariously through you.

Just bought some firecrackers with some of my coins, so it looks like the game is starting to behave like it should. If only it wouldn't keep disconnecting or giving me a blank screen. Also, why does the cube keep changing. Sometimes it's completely blank and sometimes one or more sides have had chunks chipped away. It's really inconsistent,

isn't it just a matter of time until someone hacks the app and finds what's in the middle then ruin it for the rest of us?
