id Software puts bomb under mobile projects to focus on Doom 4
|

Doom developer id Software has announced that it has shelved all current mobile projects to focus on Doom 4.

According to The Verge, id Software co-founder John Carmack is "saddened" by the need to pull back from mobile development.

"It was looked at as something that, yes, this is fun, this is fun for the company and its entertaining and it makes money, but it's not a grand slam sort of thing on there," Carmack said of his company's mobile gaming output.

"I hope we get back to mobile in various ways in the future, but the big real aim is blockbuster, AAA titles, and for id that means Doom 4."

MIA

As for the mobile games themselves, Carmack said there are "a couple of projects" underway, one of which is nearly completed.

Unfortunately, it looks like we'll have to wait until Doom 4's development cycle has run its course before any of them appear on app store shelves.
