id Software games on iPhone go cheap for QuakeCon
That’s one doomed space marine
In honour of QuakeCon, an annual meet-up where gamers celebrate space marines, hook up computers, and do synchronised rocket jumps, event host and game developer id Software has slashed the prices of its range of iPhone games.
From Thursday through Sunday, the following games will shed a few quid on the iPhone and iPod touch App Store:
Doom Resurrection (now £1.19 / $1.99 / €1.59), an on-rails FPS developed by Doom-Daddy John Carmack, was well received by critics and players when it hit the device early last year. In true Doom style, Resurrection takes players on a trip through Mars and Hell, battling demons as the last remaining Marine. Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
If you like your shooters a little more retro, Doom Classic (now £1.19 / $1.99 / €1.59) features the original seminal, genre-defining FPS, right there on your iDevice. By the same token, Wolfenstein 3D Classic (now 59p / 99c / €0.79c) deals up the retro nazi-bashing, robot-Hitler-wrecking shooter from 1992.
If you love space marines, demons and portals to hell, but don’t fancy shooting, Doom II RPG (now 59p / 99c / €0.79c) offers up all the classic Doom tropes, but wrapped in a role-playing skin. It’s got NPCs, upgradeable skills, and even a bonus digital comic.
John Carmack has some news to unveil at QuakeCon, and while its probably not some super awesome new iPhone game, we’ll let you know if Carmack’s favourite phone appears on his Powerpoint Presentation.
