Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein removed from Android Marketplace
Unofficial id Software games receive complaints
The new parent company of Doom and Quake creator id Software, ZeniMedia, has apparently filed complaints with Google over 11 unofficial versions of its games found on the Android Marketplace.
Among those are three adaptations of id's classic titles Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein, which have now been removed.
"Although the Doom source code, was open sourced, and the application was based on a port of the PrBoom engine, the application is still suspended," developer of Doom for Android L!TH!UM tells Android and Me. "My mistake was allowing the download of the Plutonia and TNT WADs, at least that is what I suspect."
A dialogue has been opened by the Android developer in an effort to get the game back onto the Marketplace, though given the recent success of id's licenses on iPhone, we have to wonder if the path isn't being cleared for official Android ports, too.
