Pirates of the Caribbean: Aegir's Fire boards iPod

Visit iTunes right this minute and you'll find Pirates of the Caribbean: Aegir's Fire has sailed into the store's games section.

It sees you at the helm of the Black Pearl, sailing the seas in search of treasure, sinking rival ships, battling fiendish sea monsters, avoiding challenges such as whirlpools and outwitting the Royal Navy. But your main goal is to locate the eponymous mythical flame, which is said to drag ships to the ocean floor.

Why would you want to go looking for such a thing is beyond us, but then Captain Jack Sparrow has never struck us as the brightest spark in the barrel.

More than 30 missions are promised, and as you progress you'll release further characters (from the film and each with their own abilities) to add to your crew. There are also secret bonus levels to unlock when you reach high scores on sunken treasure missions.

The game uses the touch-wheel for navigating the ship and is compatible with iPod nano (3rd generation), iPod classic and iPod (5th generation).

From what we've seen of it, Aegir's Fire reminds us of the multiplayer segment of Dead Man's Chest on PSP, which thankfully was the only good thing about that particularly sorry affair. We should have a review for you soon.
