Apple might be dropping 32-bit app support later this year
It's been coming for a while
Aside from removing apps that weren't frequently updated, the latest sad App Store news is that, come Autumn, we'll potentially be saying goodbye to 32-bit iOS apps when iOS 11 hits.
It's an extremely bitter moment for some as the 32-bit apps are considered mobile game classics.Devs: I'm hearing very clearly iOS 11 won't have 32bit app support at all. Update legacy apps now if you want them to survive past September — Steve T-S (@stroughtonsmith) April 8, 2017
Though Apple's been cracking down on the games for a while now, the notifications received on select games have changed from more of an update to a message of closure, essentially.
"This app will not work with future versions of iOS. The developer of this app needs to update it to improve its compatibility."
Initially pointed out by game developer Steven Troughton-Smith, it hasn't been totally confirmed as of yet, but it's worth keeping in mind if you want to keep hold of your favourite older games when the Autumn comes.
