New camera-sporting 3rd gen iPod touch to be announced at tomorrow’s Apple media event?

Not long to wait now until Apple delivers its annual September media event. This year the music-focused event is being held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts in San Francisco, and it will kick off at 6pm (GMT) tomorrow.

Why should you, dear pocket gamer, be excited? Well, typically this is the event at which Apple launches its iPod hardware updates - including, in recent years, the hugely popular iPod touch. This year is expected to be no different, with the upcoming model rumoured to possess some interesting new features.

It’s pretty much a given that the new iPod touch will feature an equivalent spec to the iPhone 3GS, which means a big bump in processing and graphical power. The other major addition that’s expected is that of a camera, which has thus far been a feature exclusive to the iPhone.

If such a feature does work its way in as expected, that would mean that the entire top-tier of the Apple range would be camera-enabled, which would in turn open the way for some interesting camera-specific gaming applications in the near future.

Keep it tuned to PG for news on the event.
