Plenty of companies use the idea of rebates - or a refund on cash you've spent on a car or camera - to encourage sales.

Now it seems that iPhone developers are getting in on the act.

A new website has set up at iPhoneGameRebate.com which promises to provide cash rewards for people who buy iPhone games.

The longterm goal is to get developers and publishers to promote their new games through the website, but to launch the initiative, it appears you can get a $1 rebate on any iPhone game you buy before 15th January 2010.

Of course, you have to register on the website and send in your iTunes receipt. Then, the cash rebate will be sent out to you.

"Offering rebates to iPhone users creates a whole new world of promotional opportunities for iPhone game publishers and developers," said Jon Lam, CEO and founder of Ph03nix New Media, the company behind the scheme.

"This is the first program of its kind for the iPhone, which means we'll see a lot of exciting initiatives as companies use this program in unique and creative ways."
